California Dreamin’ - April 9th
Mar 25th, 2009 by maltdadd

I have the beer lineup for the next TRBC tasting at the AHYP club.  The theme is California beers paired with California cuisine.  I will have a menu sometime next week.

  • Lagunitas IPA - West coast IPA’s are notoriously hoppy.  This one is well balanced.  I wanted to get Maximus, but none was available.  Maximus should be back to the Burgh in April, but probably not in time for our tasting.
  • Northcoast Old Rasputin - One of my favorite Russian Imperial Stouts.  I also recommend Northcoast’s Pranqster, which is a Belgian Golden Strong.
  • Anchor Bock - One of America’s oldest breweries.  This is a nice American take on the German lager.
  • Bear Republic Hop Rod Rye - Bear Republic is a hop-head’s dream come true.  This IPA made with rye is excellent.

Next TRBC Tasting: Luck of the Irish
Feb 26th, 2009 by maltdadd

What is really at the end of a rainbow? Fools will say a pot o’ gold, and I think it is kegs of Irish Stout and Red Ales. Put on something green and come enjoy some centuries-old, traditional Irish and Scotch Ales.
Beamish

The tasting includes free beer samples, gourmet appetizers prepared by Chef Shawn, and a presentation on the selected beers. Join us at the Allegheny HYP club on February 12th from 6pm to 8 pm. The cost to attend is $15 per person. You can purchase entry to the tasting ahead of time using the TRBC webstore. If you wish to pay at the door, please RSVP for the event using the form below.

You must be 21 or older to attend. The TRBC encourages all attendees to drink responsibly.Click here for the tasting flyer.

BEERS:

  • Belhaven Wee Heavy– A classic Scottish Heavy brewed from an ages old recipe. Belhaven has been brewing Scottish Ales since 1719.
  • Beamish Irish Stout– A Dry Irish Stout many feel is superior to the better known Guinness and Murphy’s.
  • Great Lakes Conway Irish Ale– A malty Irish Ale with a notable toasty flavor.
  • Harpoon Celtic Ale – A malty and complex Irish Red Ale balanced by a moderate hop finish.
TRBC and Pittsburgh Brewmaster Tastings
Feb 24th, 2009 by maltdadd

Starting in April, the Pittsburgh Brewmasters will hold two tastings a month.  Double your pleasure by attending meetings on the first Wed of the month at the Peters Township Sharp Edge, then meet again on the third Wed of the month at the Sharp Edge in Crafton.   Cost to attend is $10, and you must RSVP ahead of time, as space is limited.

With the Three Rivers Beer Club holding tastings on the second Thursday of each month, you can now abandon your family for great beer almost every week of the year!  Of course, if you can only pick one tasting to attend, it has to be the TRBC.  You could say I am biased, but I think I’m just right.

Speaking of the TRBC, the March tasting is shaping up.  It’s looking like Irish and Scottish Ales.  The beers are almost finalized, and there will not be any George Killian’s, I can promise you that.  Now, I wonder if I can get a hold of some Founders to round out the lineup…
